Summary: In the 1980s, two insulae with artisanal and commercial functions were uncovered in the heart of the upper city of Lugdunum. The complete excavation of nine plots, including seven located within the same block, provided exceptional documentation on the private architecture of the Early Empire and its evolution, which is detailed in the first section. The subsequent sections present the technical, typological, decorative, and functional characteristics of the dwellings. The relationships between neighbors, as well as interactions with porticoes and streets, are then explored, situating the dwellings within their urban environment. Several volumetric reconstructions are proposed, offering a credible representation of one of the two blocks. Together with the instrumentum, included in the appendix, the archaeological evidence provides the necessary insights to reconstruct urban and domestic living conditions in a neighborhood undergoing significant transformations in the mid-1st century. At that time, the construction of a sanctuary and urban development projects reduced the available space, leading to the construction of small buildings in the likely already saturated upper city of Lugdunum.
